Maybe the web did not exist when you last looked for a job or it was less popular then. You assume, of course, the key to looking selected jobs is posting resumes on sites where 'the power of the internet' will shop you, right away and confidentially, to employers worldwide. You spend several days to subscribe and to enter resume and preference data on 30 or 40 sites. Mental ahead, you thought about return to each site each week to 'refresh' your resume - changing a word or two so, in electronic terms, it will return to the top of the pile to be looked at first - again.

Confident you are efficient or even master at networking, you understand why the Taylor Nelson Sofres study shows over 60% of jobs - and more among senior positions - supervene from networking and researching. What will surprise you is that executives do need training to network and research well adequate for these skills to come to be competitive assets.

A seasoned networker, Bill walks into the hotel lobby where his expert relationship is meeting. He has business cards. He is friendly, outgoing, even charismatic - a fine schmoozer. Word about Mary spreads fast and her influence builds. Attendees will remember and help her in the future more than they ever will Bill.

Unfortunately Bill's advent to self-promotion is typical and transparent to everyone, despite his taste and truthful effort. In networking terms, he is a dime a dozen.

2010 Houston Football Predictions

The Houston Cougars ended with their second double digit win season in the last four years, as they rounded out the 2009 campaign at 10-4 overall, but the Cougars had a occasion at an even good finish, as they lost the discussion Usa Championship Game against East Carolina and then followed that up with a very poor operation against Air Force in the Armed forces Bowl. Offense:

The Cougars averaged 42.2 points a game in 2009, and a big imagine for that was the play of starting quarterback Case Keenum, who threw for 5,671 with 44 touchdowns to just 15 interceptions. Keenum is back for his senior season, and is being carefully by many as a legit Heisman candidate this year.

At running back keep an eye out for sophomore Charles Sims, who led the Cougars with 698 yards and nine touchdowns, and was also four on the team with 70 catches for 759 yards and other score. Sims freshman operation earned him the honors of discussion Usa Freshman of the Year, and he should only be good this season. The Cougars also have a pretty solid backup in junior Bryce Bell, who ended right behind Sims with 670 yards and seven touchdowns.

Senior Isaiah Thompson is projected to take over at the left guard spot, while sophomore Jacolby Ashworth is expected to start at the ever foremost left tackle spot.

Defense:

The Cougars aren't going to win many games with their defense, as this unit gave up over 30 points a game in 2009. With one of the best offenses in all of college football, this unit doesn't have to do a lot to make sure the Cougars come out on top.

The Cougars only starter back on the defensive side of the ball is junior defensive end David Hunter, who ended tied for second with 4 sacks last year. Hunter will likely be joined by sophomore nose tackle Tyrone Campbell and junior college exchange Matangi Tonga at the other end spot. The Cougars were frightful against the run last year, giving up 227 yards a game, so revision up front will be needed for the defense to slow down the opposing teams rushing attack.

One clear for enhancing against the run, is the fact that the Cougars have three starters back at linebacker this year. The best of this unit is junior Marcus McGraw, who led the Cougars with 156 tackles and tied with Hunter for second with four sacks. For more than 50 years, downtown Lawrence merchants have been filling the sidewalks on the third Thursday of July with startling bargains the likes of which you only see for the each year sidewalk sale. Yes, the weather is ordinarily brutally hot, but that doesn't stop the bargain hunters from heading downtown to tromp up and down Mass street scooping up the goods.

For many shoppers, the each year Sidewalk sale in downtown Lawrence is as big a day as Black Friday. Thousands of early birds are lined up and ready for the opening rounds at 6:00 a.m. It is not unusual for sales staff to spend Wednesday night and Thursday morning prepping for the sale so they can hoist the makeshift awnings and start bringing out merchandise at 5:00 a.m.

For most, it's a party climate and a bit of a amiable competition to see which store will earn the bragging ownership for who was ready the earliest. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will come out early to get the best deals at Urban Outfitters, American Eagle and the Gap. These market have been collecting sale merchandise from sister market across the country to take advantage of the throngs of shoppers that show up for this event. I have seen lines for completing purchases that stretch 50 yards down the sidewalk.

Packs of teenage girls and college coeds swarm the racks up and down the street and Lord help the girl who grabs that last size 2 skirt that is marked down by 75%. It is every girl for herself on Sidewalk Sale day. I've seen lifelong friendships crumble before your eyes when two friends grab the same skirt.

For merchants, the each year Sidewalk Sale is a time to clear out the stock rooms in establishment for receiving holiday merchandise. For shoppers, it's a great way to get a head start on back to school shopping. And for the City, it's a great way to boost sales tax collections while the sleepy summer months when many Ku students have gone home for the summer.

The Sidewalk Sale is also a great time for many non-profit and assistance organizations to reach a large audience. You can buy your raffle tickets to win the each year "Casa for Casa" playhouse or stop by the Lawrence Humane society booth to make a donation or buy a t-shirt.

Every few months, I get the alumni magazine from my college. I commonly perceive straight through the class notes to see if there's anything I remember who has gotten mentioned. Most of the entries are a bit, well, dull, saying things like, "Now retired after 30 years teaching in the same school" or  "Just retired from 40 years at the bank." Apparently, my fellow college students were big on staying put in one place.

This time, however, an entry caught my eye. It read, "Retired after thirty-five years as a public worker and probation officer. He now spends his time as a big-game hunter and tourist in Africa and is a full-time freelance outdoors writer." I never knew the man so described, but I wanted to. I wanted to know how he kept his adventurous soul alive for such a long time while toiling away in Cook County Illinois. 

Leaving a customary situation is a challenge that comes to all of us-sometimes some times throughout our life.  I once received e-mail from a woman who had spent her life as a teacher. She had stuck with it long after the delight had gone. Now she was ready, she said, to do something wholly different. However, she wasn't at all distinct what the new path should be. That happens, of course, when we come to be entrenched in a situation or association for so long that we forget that we have options.

I made some suggestions about how she could begin exploring fresh options. I heard from her again after about ten days and she was development great headway. She'd even listed all of her teaching books on eBay-burning her bridges she said.  dream my amazement when I opened her most recent e-mail which was obviously written in a moment of great panic. "I only have an additional one week to sign my teaching contract," it read. "Should I sign it?"

I was flabbergasted and promptly replied that I didn't have the write back to her question. The moment I typed that question, I realized at a very deep level, how our acts of self-doubt don't just impact our own lives, but have a profound ripple effect. Take the low road and you'll have a procession behind you. What kind of heritage is that?

We might tell ourselves that staying in a stultifying association isn't literally so bad or having a job that robs us of any creative enthusiasm is fine for now, but every day that we hang on we are losing high-priced time that could be spent construction something bold and beautiful. On the other hand, our acts of courage beget courage in others as well. I'm guessing that my old college classmate will inspire all sorts of citizen to create their own version of a safari. 

While letting go can seem terrifying, think of the times you've done so and found  yourself in a best place. It's no use tricking yourself into mental that you'll make things best while staying in the bad situation, however. Doesn't work that way. As long as you hang on, you can't move on.

It begins with the vision to identify when a job, a life stage, a association is over and to let it go. It means leaving what's over without denying its validity or its past point in our lives. We own what we learned back there, the perceive and the growth are grafted onto our lives. And when we exit, we can take ourselves along. Quite gracefully."

The foundation of Mark Sisson's primal diet (lots of fatty meat, some vegetables, nuts and seeds, little fruit, and no cereal grains) is that we should eat what our ancestors ate. According to him, this means lots of meat and fat and very few carbohydrates. These are the foods that our ancestors thrived on and these are the foods that we thrive on today.

Let's start by analyzing the first part of that statement: Did our ancestors well thrive on animal flesh?

Look to Your Ancestors

Here are just a few points that refute Mark's consulation that our ancestors relied heavily on meat:

#1: Humans Were Gatherers First, Hunters Second

If I learned one thing over and over again from the numerous anthropology courses I attended in college (anthropology was my minor), it's that humans were primarily gatherers. Over 70% of the foods we consumed were plant-based. And this makes perfect. We are not very adept at hunting. We have dull nails, flat teeth, and we aren't very fast. It took a lot of work for us to track and take down an animal, even a small one.

#2: Heavy Meat-Eating was little to the Ice Age

It is very likely that our ancestors (at least some of them, depending upon the region), lived on a large measure of meat. And even though most vegans may scoff at it, this was a Great thing for our species.

If we had not created new tools for killing large animals, (such as long spears with sharp, curved points all over the blade that did a great job of taking down large prey while we remained at a safe distance) rather than relying on small tools for scavenging, and if we had not learned how to track and hunt these animals effectively, our species would not have survived the harsh conditions of this singular glacial maximum (aka the Ice Age).

But the fact remains that this was only a measure of our time on the planet. Anthropologists agree that the rest of our existence as hunter-gatherers was spent eating mostly foraged foods.

#3: Wild Meat was Lean Meat

Even if we did subsist on lots of animal flesh during the Ice Age, this flesh came from wild animals (e.g. Elk, reindeer, and mammoths). These animals were forced to traverse the land and fight for their food, just like our ancestors did.

As a result, they were fit and lean (averaging 15% body fat) unlike today's fatty domesticated animals which Mark and paleo supporters promote eating (even when trimmed, beef sirloin is still approximately 40% fat). And really, I'm being lenient when I say that humans likely ate mostly meat during the Ice Age. Anthropologists still argue about this point, some claiming that we continued our plant-predominated diet. I think the evidence suggests that we did eat quite a bit of animal flesh and that this helped us tremendously during the harsh weather conditions, but I'm no anthropological expert. :)

#4: Low Fat was the Norm

Anthropologists also agree that the diet we lived on as hunter-gatherers was low in fat, staying within the 10-20% range. Meat was a rarity (and as I already mentioned, these animals were lean) and fatty nuts and seeds were only available for part of the year. Everything else, i.e. Fruits and vegetables, are low in fat. This is very dissimilar from Mark's recommendations of eating 50%+ of total calories from fat, most of this fat advent from animal flesh.

#5: Hunter-Gatherers Ate Meat, Pastoralists Ate Milk, Eggs, and Cheese

While it's clear that humans have always consumed some meat, it's also clear that we did not consume any animal by-products (e.g. Dairy and eggs) until we became sedentary and began domesticating animals. Why Mark thinks that inspiring butter and cream correlates to a hunter-gatherer diet, I haven't the foggiest.

Look to Your Anatomy

Regardless of the immense investigate and fact looking that has been done about human evolution, the easy fact remains that we were not there to explore it. We will never know for sure what well happened.

So since the past will never be fully understood, is it well a good idea to base an entire diet nearby what we think our ancestors consumed? I don't think so.

I think it is a much great idea to look at what we do know, and that's the human body as it exists today. And it just so happens that Everything we know supports a high carb lifestyle, not a low carb one.

#1: "The Currency of the Body is Glucose"

This is how fellow high-carb lover Frederic Patenaude put it during a lecture and he's well right. Your whole body runs on carbohydrates, specifically the easy sugar glucose. Everything you eat has to be converted to sugar for you to fully absorb it. This fact alone completely plunders the low carb argument. But there's more...

#2: You Are Not a Carnivore

Nothing about your anatomy or physiology suggests that the optimal food for you is meat. Quite the opposite, in fact. Your flat teeth, flat nails, long digestive tract, and inability to produce vitamin C approximately scream that the foods which preserve you best are plant-based.

#3: Meat Causes Cancer

The investigate is clear. If you want to avoid tasteless cancers (e.g. Colon cancer, rectum cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer) and other diseases of affluence (e.g. Heart disease and diabetes), you have to consume as little animal products as possible.

#4: Ever caress withdrawal Symptoms From Fresh Fruit?

When a man gives up animal products, particularly dairy, he or she experiences withdrawal effects. Similar to when population give up alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, or cocaine, it is tasteless to caress headaches, fatigue, runny noses, and break outs when transitioning to a meat-free diet. And after the detox is over, their health invariably Improves! If animal products were good for us, we would not see this kind of negative reaction or the determined results that corollary when we eliminate them from our diet.

#5: Ketosis is a Last Resort

Frederic also pointed this out during his lecture. Ketosis is a process by which your body burns its own stored fat for fuel. This is a way for your body to avoid inspiring its own vital organs for as long as inherent during times of famine. This is specifically why population can fast for long periods of time without keeling over.

Purposely entering into ketosis, which is what Mark's low carb diet troops the body to do, is not advantageous. Ketosis is a survival mechanism, requisite in times of famine, and should not be viewed as a viable weight loss or health strategy.

Bottom Line

Human beings thrive on whole food carbohydrates, not fatty meats. These are the foods your ancestors thrived on and these are the foods your body thrives on today.
